If you've had that old box-type car for the longest time and its engine is already starting to give you problems, isn't it high time to consider buying a new car? Purchasing a newer, more reliable car is especially important if you are using it to travel to and from work.
Just imagine the type of nightmare that you would have to face if you were late in a meeting with your boss because your old car refuses to start!
New Car Buying Tips
Purchasing a new car may seem to be a daunting task, but it is perfectly doable as long as you spend enough time and exert some effort into it. To help you out in your quest to buying that replacement vehicle for your trusty old unit – here are some new car buying tips:
1. Allow yourself at least a couple of weekends to purchase your new car.
One of the mistakes that most people make when purchasing a new car is that they go to the car dealership all rushed because they need to find and buy a car, ASAP. This would\ not do, especially if you are on the lookout for cheap cars.
Give yourself at least a couple of weekends to do the research, visit various car dealerships and seal the deal before driving off with your new car.
2. Before you visit any car dealership, make sure that you already have the financing.
Whether you will be applying for a car loan, paying in cash or leasing the car – you should make sure that you do have the means to pay for the car before visiting one car dealership after another.
3. Sell your used car on a separate transaction.
You may be tempted into selling your old car to the same car dealership where you are buying the new car – but this is not always a good move. How can they give you a great deal on your used car if they know that you have the means to buy a new one?
It is much better to sell your old car on a separate transaction so that you can still get the best value out of your old vehicle.
4. Narrow down your choices to two or three cars and test drive them.
You will never be able to choose a car if you do not narrow down your choices to a couple of cars.
This should be after setting a 'ceiling' for the price so you will not go overbudget. It is also important to test drive the car before signing your name on that dotted line.
5. Sign only until after the deal is done and you are informed of the final, final price – then say no to the extras.
Remember to only affix your signature once the final price is revealed – after the fees and taxes.
Lastly, you won't believe all the other extras that the car dealership will try to sell you. You can always purchase those at a later date if you need to – just say no to any additional offers.
